Practical Science in Action

Last half term, Class 3 have been exploring the science of sound – and it’s been hands-on from start to finish.

Working scientifically, the children investigated whether the distance from a sound source affects its volume. Using a sound meter to collect accurate data, they carefully considered how to keep their test fair and drew thoughtful conclusions from their results. We were so impressed with their teamwork and reasoning skills.

They’ve also been learning about high and low pitch – and what better way to explore this than by creating their very own pan flutes! It was a brilliant opportunity to combine science, creativity and a little musical flair.

Future scientists (and musicians!) in the making…
